Role description
The Associate role will give you the opportunity to sharpen your analytical skills by evaluating life science companies from multiple angles – scientific, clinical, regulatory, commercial, and financial. Working with an experienced, global team of life science investors, you will gain valuable insights while contributing to identifying valuable investment opportunities in the sector.
The position involves managing investment prospects and conducting preliminary assessments of potential investments. You will also perform investment research, assist the team with current portfolio companies, and take on various special projects as needed. This role will give you direct exposure to diverse biotech companies across different therapeutic areas and development stages.
The position is on a full-time basis, with a hybrid work arrangement that includes both remote work and in-person days per week at Biovance Capital’s office in Lisbon, Portugal.
The Associate will be responsible for the following:
- Identify, evaluate, and assess potential investment opportunities that align with the fund’s strategic focus;
- Conduct thorough market research, analyze competitors, and perform comprehensive due diligence;
- Collect insights through discussions with industry experts and key thought leaders;
- Assist the team with developing investment proposals and supporting current portfolio companies;
- Participate in portfolio company’s board meetings;
- Participate in local and international startup events and scientific conferences;
- Develop and strengthen relationships with academic institutions, startup incubators, and research organizations.

Requirements
- Strong academic profile with a PhD in a relevant field such as biology, biomedical sciences, medicine, pharmacology or similar;
- Ability to excel in a team environment;
- Proficiency in written and spoken English is mandatory (knowledge of Portuguese is not required as our company’s working language is English);
- Preferably, working experience in life sciences venture capital, biotech or pharma;
- EU work permit and right of residency is required;
- Maximum 5 years of professional experience;
- International experience is a plus.
Location and start date
Starting in October 2025 at company’s headquarters in Lisbon, Portugal.
Salary and Benefits
Compensation commensurate to experience, including Carried Interest, private health insurance, laptop, mobile phone and meal card allowance.
